Special Shabbat Shiur
Saturday 7 October, 9:15-10:15
In Person and on Zoom

Join Rabbi Tanya as we welcome EHRS Emeritus Rabbi Steven Katz and Michael Heppner (ex Research Director Memorial Scrolls Trust), to talk about our Sobeslav Scroll, and it’s very special connection to Rabbi Katz and our EHRS community prior to the Shabbat Morning Service.

When Michael’s business activities in the 1970’s and 1980’s took him frequently to Communist Eastern Europe he became involved with the legacy and fate of the Jews of Bohemia and Moravia and the heritage that is represented by the Czech Memorial Scrolls that were brought to London in 1964 and especially those that were entrusted to his synagogue in Northwood.
Initially his focus was concentrated on the legacy of the Memorial Scrolls at his Northwood congregation. But later his involvement widened to spreading awareness of the legacy of the collection of 1564 scrolls that were sent to congregations across the world as the last representatives of the heritage of their lost communities.
Since retiring as Research Director of the Trust he has also become involved with the history and heritage of the community of European Jewish Refugees who escaped to Shanghai, including working with the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum.

If you are unable to join us in person, but would like to join online, then please email admin@ehrs.uk for Zoom details

We have also organised a community visit to Westminster Synagogue to visit the Czech Scrolls Memorial Museum on Sunday 3 December and hope that many of you will also join us for what promises to be a fascinating day.
