ULEZ

EHRS help with the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ)

We recognise that for some of our members the introduction of the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) into the Boroughs of Barnet and Harrow may bring challenges if you travel to Synagogue by car. We want to help with the adaptations that we will need to make.

1. To find out if your vehicle meets the required emissions and safety standards check on the Transport for London (TFL) website here Check your vehicle (tfl.gov.uk). Sadly we know that there are scam sites which aim to sell you a car by giving you false information so it is best to only use the TFL site.

2. Discounts and exemptions – If you are disabled and your vehicle (or your nominated driver’s vehicle) does not meet ULEZ emissions standards, you may qualify for a temporary discount from the ULEZ charge, called a grace period. Eligible applicants for these grace periods will not need to pay the ULEZ charge until 25 October 2027. However, you will need to apply for this on the TFL website, details can be found here Discounts and exemptions – Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

3. Are you able to offer a lift to Shul for a member affected by ULEZ? Please let val.joseph@ehrs.uk know so that we can add you to our register and match you up with a person who needs your help.

4. If your car is not ULEZ compliant and you are not in a position to change it, EHRS has established a ULEZ fund which can help you pay the ULEZ charge when you come to the synagogue. Please send and email to admin@ehrs.uk or call the office on 0208 238 1000 and Rochelle will register you for refunds of the cost when you need pay the fee to attend synagogue events.

5. If you live in London Borough then the Mayor of London office is able to pay a substantial amount to help you to scrap and replace your car with one that is ULEZ compliant. Click here for help. Some of our members are finding using this service, and the discount and exemption procedures, complex and we would very much appreciate a couple of volunteers making some time available to help those who are uncertain what to do. Please could you let val.joseph@ehrs.uk know that you might be willing to help.
