Thursday 3 February
Adar – Wrapping ourselves in Tallit. Early medieval paintings from Italy show women wearing Tallitot, and it is easy to read the Torah command as applying to everyone, so how and why did tallit become a thing men do? We will explore the history and halachah, before having an opportunity to learn to tie tzit tzit (tassles) either as a keyring, or on a shawl/pashminah. If you have a shawl or pashmina you would like to transform into a tallit, please feel free to bring it along or have it ready at home. If you are at home you will need thin woollen threads to tie the tzittzit (tassles). Traditionally wool wouldn’t be mixed with cotton so if your shawl isn’t woollen you might prefer to use cotton or polyester threads, but this is a personal choice. All are welcome to join us regardless of age or experience with tallitot! You can also come if you want to learn about tallitot but not make one.

Future dates: 3 March
