We will be discussing ‘The Tangled Undergrowth’ by Marian Gold

The stories in this book explore four different journeys of self discovery. Each contain hardships and dangers to overcome:
JUDITH Her story begins in 1893. She has to leave her family behind, never to see them again. She suffers abuse, privation and harsh treatment until she finds someone who loves her.
LIZZIE Nine yeas old in 1943, she is sent away from home during wartime. Finds comfort with strangers but is caught up in a nightmare scenario and feels abandoned by her parents.
DAISY Her family story begins in the 1920’s. She discovers secrets in her family which draw her into a journey to find her real mother. Hopes to be loved by her but is turned away.
CLAIRE After a troubled early life in the 1970’s she looks for acceptance through a change of gender. Her journey is through a bitter emotional landscape and her need for love is never realised.
