Jamaica – No I Went of my Own Accord
In February, Rabbi Mark went to Jamaica to officiate the wedding of EHRS Members Monifa Angus & Gary Lewis. Jamaica is Monifa’s original home country. He was also invited to preach and teach Torah at the Shaare Shalom Synagogue in Kingston, Jamaica on the Shabbat. This is the only Synagogue in Jamaica and provides a Jewish home for Reform, Masorti and Orthodox Jews, Sephardi and Ashkenazi. This Synagogue was built in 1912 but Jamaica has been a home for Jews since before the first Synagogue was built in the 1690’s. How is the Jewish community doing and how have Jews contributed to Jamaica?
