Ida

Winning the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015, this film tells a story of an eponymous orphan Ida who survived the war hidden in a convent and now, disconnected from her family heritage, prepares to become a nun. Before she takes her final vows, her prioress informs her that she should pay a visit to her aunt Wanda, once a prominent communist judge, now an embittered alcoholic. Wanda takes Ida on a trip to visit the place where Ida’s parents hid during the war. This trip forces them to confront their family’s traumatic past and changes the way they look at the world.

Ida leaves us with a question: can we ever escape our family history? Come and join Rabbi Mati to find out.
