Chatanim Honours 2021

Chatanim Honours 2021

HELP US TO HONOUR MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND BEYOND
HAVE YOUR SAY AND BE PART OF SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL
5782 / 2021

EHRS are now welcoming nominations from members for the prestigious High Holy Day honours.
Each year your elected Council members are asked to ‘commend’ a wide range of voluntary works and good deeds carried out by older and younger members of the community. Honorary Officers then consider bestowing the much-deserved honours of Chatan/Kallah Torah and Bereshit, passing their recommendations back to Council for approval.
The nomination process is open to the whole community and our members can nominate who they feel best deserves this wonderful honour at Simchat Torah.

  • Previously, other than extenuating circumstances, members would usually only receive this honour once
  • Now, if they are still involved fifteen years after previously being given the honour, they will be re-eligible
  • In truly egalitarian fashion, it is not necessary to have 6-8 Chatanim with male, female and youth recipients
  • The Chatan or Kallah (adult/youth) will be chosen by merit of their contribution (not their gender)
  • Youth honours will be given to students in Academic Years 9-13 to avoid conflict with their studies
  • A ledger of previous Chatanim over the years will be available for all members to view at any time, making our past a real part of our community’s history for the future

We also welcome recommendations for Lifetime Dedication Honour, Ma’asim Tovim , Beyond EHRS and Local Hero, which can be made year round by contacting the Synagogue Office by phone or email. Please see the nomination form for more details.

Recommendations can be made until 25 June using the Chatanim Honours Nomination Form.

Please click here to download and print the nomination form, and send your completed form to the Synagogue Office, or email honours@ehrs.uk either scanning your completed form, or emailing all relevant details.
