Rosh Chodesh Elul
On the first day of a Hebrew month, a sliver of the new moon is visible in the sky. Rosh Chodesh (‘head of the month’) is the traditional Jewish holiday on this day.
Join us on Zoom for music, contemplation, chat and creativity to mark each new month.
Elul – A time for reflection and preparation
Teshuvah
by Rachel Barenblat
God and I collaborate
on revising the poem of myself.
I decide what needs polishing,
what to preserve and what to lose;
God reads my draft with pursed lips.
If I really mean it, God
sings a new song, one strong
as stone and serene as silk.
I want this year’s poem
to be joyful. I want this year’s poem
to be measured like flour,
to burn like sweet dry maple…
What do you want this year’s poem to be? What needs polishing and what needs revising so that a new song can emerge?
Join us for our monthly Rosh Chodesh group for conversation, meditation and thinking about the issues that help or hold us back, as we journey towards the High Holy Days.
