Judah HaLevi – His Heart was in the East
One of the greatest Hebrew poets whose poetry is part of our services, especially on the High Holydays, and includes some wonderful love poetry. He was born in Spain in 1075 and died in Israel in 1141. In between, his works of poetry and philosophy had a huge influence on Judaism and were some of the earliest texts inspiring spiritual Zionism.
